On July 15, 2020, the Intermediate People's Court of Xuzhou City, Jiangsu Province publicly sentenced the former Vice Chairman of the National People's Congress Environment and Resources Protection Committee Meng Wei to accept the bribery case, and sentenced the defendant Meng Wei to 14 years in prison for bribery.   After trial, it was ascertained that from 2003 to 2017, the defendant Meng Wei took advantage of his position as dean of the Chinese Academy of Environmental Sciences, chief technical officer of the National Water Specialty, and head of the implementation plan preparation expert group, as well as his own authority and status Convenience conditions formed, through the acts of the staff of other countries, provide assistance to others in matters such as company management, participation in national scientific research projects, and undertaking environmental governance engineering projects, and receive property from relevant units and individuals, totaling RMB 2046.   The Xuzhou Intermediate People's Court held that the defendant Meng Wei, as a national staff member, used the convenience of his post to seek benefits for others, as well as the convenience conditions formed by his powers and status, through the acts of other national staff members to seek for the trustee. Unjustified interests, illegally accepting other people's property, the amount is particularly huge, and its behavior has constituted a crime of bribery.
