Questioned on the occasion of the National Day, Tuesday, Emmanuel Macron said he preferred that there be "wages that we accept to drop momentarily rather than layoffs", before specifying the rules that could frame these reductions in income.

Will some employees have to accept a cut in their wages to promote economic recovery after the coronavirus crisis? Yes, according to Emmanuel Macron. "I prefer to the maximum that there are (...) wages that we accept to temporarily lower rather than layoffs, because, sometimes, it takes years to return to a job," assured the head of the state during an interview granted for July 14, Tuesday. "It must not be blackmail," he warned, however.
