The Egyptian Ministry of Health said that at least 12 people were injured in a massive fire that broke out at the Shuqair-Mostorod pipeline to transport crude oil.

The pipeline runs on a major highway on the outskirts of Cairo.

According to the ministry’s statement, the fire broke out “on the beginning of the Cairo-Ismailia desert road as a result of a broken line and a spark caused by cars jostling the road, which led to the burning of the leaking ore.”

The ministry added that, “The bluff of the line was immediately closed before and after the place of the fire, and the immediate move to extinguish the ignition by fire vehicles, surrounding petroleum geographic areas, and fire engines of the armed forces and civil protection.”

Videos circulated on social media showed thick clouds of smoke and burning cars on the side of the road.
