A quad hit the terrace of a cafe late Monday afternoon in Hauts de Bienne, a town of about 5,000 inhabitants in the Jura. The accident, which occurred around 6:30 p.m., left three people injured, including two bar customers and the driver of the machine, who was traveling without a helmet, according to the Jura prefecture.

Six other “jostled” customers

The two customers were "slightly" affected, while the driver was more seriously injured, without his life threatening being compromised. Six other customers of the bar, clearly "jostled" at the time of impact, were examined on the spot by Smur but their condition did not cause any concern.

According to the first elements, it was an accident. But the circumstances could be aggravating: the driver, who was carrying a passenger, seemed to have a positive blood alcohol level, said a source close to the file. He had previously made several "zigzags in front of the terrace", before finally hitting it during a new passage.

The driver, directed to a hospital in the area, will be heard "probably under police custody" when his condition allows it, said the public prosecutor of Lons-le-Saunier, Lionel Pascal. An investigation into "involuntary injuries" has been opened, the magistrate added.
