13 July 2020The outgoing conservative President Andrzej Duda has been re-elected to the leadership of Poland with about 51.2 percent of the votes cast: the results released today counting about 99.7 percent of the seats confirm this . Duda overtook the liberal challenger Rafal Trzaskowski, from 2018 mayor of Warsaw. The challenge between the two candidates was also presented as a confrontation on relations with the European Union, with a line of greater openness on the part of Trzaskowski. Criticisms of Duda, head of state since 2015, leader of the Prawo i Sprawiedliwosc (Pis) party, also included positions regarding a reform of the judicial system, abortion and homosexuality.
