“In response to these unlawful actions by the United States, China has decided today to impose sanctions on the China Committee on US Congress, on US Ambassador on International Religious Freedom, US Department of State Sam Brownback, Senators Marco Rubio and Ted Cruise, as well as Congressman Chris Smith, ”RIA Novosti quoted the diplomat as saying.

She noted that Washington’s actions are “gross interference in internal affairs” and violate the fundamental principles of international relations.

As emphasized in the department, Beijing categorically condemns this and expresses strong protest.

Earlier, the United States imposed sanctions against the public security department of the Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region (XUAR) of China for "human rights violations." Chinese authorities have promised countermeasures.
