  • USA California closes beaches and restaurants after breaking a record of Covid-19 infections

Gavin Newsom, the governor of California, ordered on Monday the closure of a large part of the economy of the most populous state in the country due to the advance of Covid-19. With more than 6,500 daily infections and a total of deaths that already exceeds 7,000, Newsom has chosen to apply stricter measures to those that it has been imposing in recent weeks. From this Monday, the interior dining rooms of restaurants, bars, cinemas, zoos and museums must stop operating at the state level. At the same time, gyms, churches, hairdressers and shopping malls, among other businesses, will not be able to remain open in the 31 counties most affected by the infections. The measure affects almost 89% of the population of the Golden State.

"We have seen an increase in the spread of the virus, and so it behooves us all to seriously recognize that Covid-19 is not going to go away anytime soon until there is an effective vaccine or therapy, " Newsom said in his media appearance. .

The announcement comes at a time of clear escalation of cases in various parts of the United States. In Florida, over 15,000 infections were exceeded on Sunday, a record to date in the entire country, and in Arizona there are overflowing hospitals, with ICUs at 90% of their capacity at the state level.

Newsom sounded the alarms weeks ago, warning of the unbalance of returning to mandatory quarantines. In the days prior to the July 4 celebrations, it imposed the closure of beaches and shops in the counties hardest hit by the pandemic, with the idea of preventing a new health crisis. Now, the measures affect the entire territory.

Restaurants with outdoor areas may continue to operate and sell takeaways. Bars with terraces can also keep up as long as they serve food. As for the cinemas, only 28 remained open until Monday. The blow to the Hollywood industry is being devastating.
