It was in January of this year that Greece, Israel and Cyprus agreed to build the gas pipeline. The price tag for the project is expected to end at SEK 60 billion. The gas pipeline, which is supposed to pass through the eastern Mediterranean, will then cross an area claimed by Turkey following an agreement with Libya.

Tensions in the region have resulted in an escalation of the conflict in Libya, between the Libyan government and the LNA outbreak group. At the same time, Egypt has joined the conflict, which itself has major interests in the planned gas pipeline.
