The doctor had already been criticized by IVO in 2017 for prescribing drugs to the patient, "in an uncontrolled manner and in a remarkable mixture of different addictive drugs". When IVO started its investigation, the doctor changed his prescription pattern, which appealed to the regulator.

But when the IVO learned in January 2019 that a patient had taken a serious relapse in abuse as a result of the doctor's prescriptions, the doctor was re-examined.

The patient with substance abuse problems should have taken 300 tablets of various narcotic drugs in just a few days.

When IVO requested prescription records and focused on transcripts for six patients, deficiencies were found in all. At least two of the patients have had other treating physicians. There is also no indication of dosing in several cases and in no case does it say how long the treatment should last.

According to IVO, the doctor has abused his authority, which is suspected to have jeopardized patient safety.

IVO primarily wants the doctor to get rid of his prescription right for narcotic drugs and, secondly, to give them a probationary period of three years. The decision is made by the Health Board of Health, HSAN.
