The Secretaries of State have all resigned with the previous government. If some have since landed a ministerial post, thus being sure of staying, the others will not know their fate until next week. And the wait begins to be long.

"At work", these are the words of Emmanuel Macron at the Council of Ministers Wednesday, a few days after the appointment of the new government of Prime Minister, Jean Castex. But it does not (yet) apply to Secretaries of State ... who have still not been appointed. However, they all resigned well with the previous government. Some have since landed a ministerial position, and are therefore guaranteed to continue in the new team, but for leavers and aspirants alike, the wait never stops. They should not know their fate until next week.

And the wait turns to torture. "My company car brought me home, with my boxes, then nothing," said an outgoing. Since then, everyone has been trying to pass the time without straying too far from their phones. No indication has filtered, neither on a renewal, nor on an eviction. "This is not the kind of house," smiles a minister.

There will inevitably be disappointed

The wait could still last a week, the time for Emmanuel Macron and Jean Castex to define the new perimeters of the Secretaries of State. For example, there are several new positions at the Ministry of Ecology. But there will not be room for everyone. In addition to the outgoing and possible poaching, a good twenty deputies of the majority hope to integrate the government.
