10 July 2020 Holland will bring Russia before the European Court of Human Rights "for its role in the destruction of flight MH17" shot down in 2014 in the skies of Ukraine. The Dutch government has communicated it.

About two thirds of the 298 victims were from the Netherlands, whose authorities repeatedly pointed to Russia as responsible for the crash of 17 July 2014. Accusations that the Kremlin has always rejected.

The move aims to support individual cases brought before the European Court by relatives of some of the 298 victims, killed by a Buk surface-to-air missile fired from a territory controlled by pro-Russian Ukrainian rebels that detonated the Amsterdam-Kuala flight Lumpur. "Getting justice for 298 victims of the downing of flight MH17 is and will remain the government's top priority," said Foreign Minister Stef Blok, "By taking this step today we are getting closer to the goal."

Moscow has repeatedly denied involvement in the shooting down of the Boeing 777. An international team of prosecutors investigating the case has however accused three Russians and a Ukrainian of being involved in the shooting down of the plane and in the murder of all passengers on board. .
