Without the help of firefighters, the doe would have drowned. - North SDIS

Wednesday morning, firefighters from the North were required to come to the aid of a wild animal in difficulty in Bouchain, near Valenciennes. A doe, which fell into the Scheldt canal, could not reach the shore, we learned from the Departmental Fire and Rescue Service (Sdis).

Early Wednesday morning, the person in charge of the malignant bridge lock, on the Scheldt canal, noticed that a doe had fallen into the water and that she was unable to return to the mainland due to the height of the bank. In addition to the fact that the animal was in danger of becoming exhausted and of drowning, it also presented a danger for the movement of boats.

The doe comes out safe and sound

The employee contacted the firefighters, who dispatched a team of divers to the scene. When they arrived, the hind always swam from one side to the other of the canal to try to get out. Dressed in coveralls, three firefighters got into the water. They surrounded the animal to force it to approach the bank.

The deer was then hoisted to the shore, a firefighter pulling it by the horns from the edge and two others pushing it by the hindquarters. Once out of the water safe and sound, the doe did not ask for his rest to return to the woods, without a word of thanks for his saviors.
