Some 6,000 people dressed in white participated Wednesday evening in a tribute to the bus driver violently attacked in Bayonne. They marched behind the victim's wife and three daughters. The procession left around 7:30 p.m. at the bus stop where Philippe Monguillot, 59, was severely beaten and badly wounded in the head on Sunday, and joined the hospital where the latter is still in a desperate state .

"My husband has not yet lost his life, his heart is beating, his head is no longer responding," said his wife Véronique, 52. “We hold on to minimal hope. I'm a bit lost, I don't want to be relentless but we are trying. Another 48 hours, after we will see ».

"Incredible support"

"This human tide is important, it is incredible support," she added, very moved, many times to tears, by the many applause and signs of support. Carrying a large photo of her and her embracing husband, she walked at the head of the parade with her daughters -Marie, 18, Manon, 21 and Mélanie, 24, each with a bouquet of white flowers in hand. Behind them, local elected officials and employees of Chronoplus, the network of the agglomeration of Bayonne / Anglet / Biarritz.

Many onlookers on the sidewalks applauded the passage of the long procession, made up of about 6,000 people according to the police. On arrival, hospital staff were at the windows to applaud. At the call of the national intersyndicale of public urban transport of travelers, a minute of stop of public transport had to be observed in several cities of France at the time of the start of the white march, in particular in Bordeaux, Rennes, Nantes, Strasbourg and Mulhouse.

The aggression of Philippe Monguillot aroused a very strong emotion among his colleagues, who exercised their right of withdrawal Monday morning and assure that they will not resume work "before the funeral".

Victim of "extreme violence"

During the white march, his wife addressed them: “All four (with his daughters), we have a strength in us and we will fight, for us and for the guys from Chronoplus, whom Philippe adores. I give you my word, guys. According to the Bayonne prosecution, the bus driver was the victim of an "extremely violent" assault when he wanted to control the ticket of one person and demanded the wearing of the mask for three others.

Two men, 22 and 23 years old and known to the police, were suspected of having carried out the beating and were charged with attempted murder and imprisoned. Two other individuals, in their thirties, were imprisoned and charged, in particular for "failure to assist a person in danger".
