Monday, the owner of a castle in the south Loire presents himself in a gendarmerie brigade. He says that a fake agent of the Heritage Foundation tried by phone to extract 47,000 euros from him. The scammer explains that this sum corresponds to the amount of a mysterious “Stéphane Bern” mission and that it must be used for the renovation of the castle.

The bogus agent went even further because he asked that this money be paid to a chartered notary of the Heritage Foundation. This notary would be responsible for paying the artisans afterwards. Realizing the deception, the victim did not follow up and notified the Heritage Foundation. Which confirmed the attempted scam.

Resurgence of this type of scam

Also, the gendarmerie warns: “Economic and financial offenses are developing and the Covid-19 period with the proliferation of online procedures has seen this type of scam multiply. We see in the south Loire an increase of almost 50% compared to June 2019 and a 91% increase in forgery and use of stolen checks. "
