No, Tom Cruise is not a presidential candidate for 2020 in the United States

#RunTomRun. Since this weekend, and in the wake of Kanye West's very official candidacy for the American presidential election of 2020, a video of Tom Cruise announcing his candidacy has been shared massively on social networks.

You can see a man supposed to be Tom Cruise running on a road in the middle of the desert and showing off his exploits accomplished during his impressive filmography: like carrying out "impossible missions", piloting fighter planes in "Top Gun" and even fight the extraterrestrials (three times!)… It was enough for many internet users to take this campaign clip seriously.

But it is really a hoax that is almost a year old. It was put online on August 13, 2019 by actor Miles Fisher, who looks very much like the American actor.

The actor had already played Tom Cruise in Superhero Movie  and Entertainment Tonight , as Vulture pointed out, who had designated this clip as "video of the month" in September 2019.
