Yesterday, Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas issued a decree extending the state of emergency for the fifth consecutive month to counter the outbreak of the new Corona Virus (Covid-19), while the Palestinian Ministry of Health warned that the epidemiological situation in Hebron Governorate will not be under control.

The Palestinian News Agency, Wafa, reported that Abbas’s decree included an extension of the state of emergency for 30 days, starting from yesterday, and that the relevant authorities continue to take all necessary measures to confront the risks resulting from the virus.

The Palestinian Minister of Health, May Alkila, warned that the epidemic situation of the Corona virus in the city of Hebron will be out of control if the people of the city do not cooperate.

"Wafa" quoted the minister as saying that "within Hebron governorate alone, there were 412 injuries recorded in 24 hours, most of them in the city, with 2749 active injuries in that governorate alone."

She added, "If the citizens of Hebron do not cooperate with the Ministry of Health crews, the epidemiological situation will get out of control." And that the Ministry will submit a recommendation to extend the closure imposed in the city, because the epidemiological situation requires it. The representative called on all citizens to abide by the preventive measures.

This comes as the Palestinian Ministry of Health announced the registration of three new deaths from the new Corona virus in the West Bank, including a seventy-year-old woman who died from Al-Fawar camp in the Hebron governorate, and was suffering from chronic diseases, while the other two were men, one seventy and forty-two in the Hebron governorate, as announced 208 others were infected with the virus in various governorates, raising the death toll in Palestine to 20, and the death toll to 4458 cases.

Shtayyeh added that the cabinet will discuss the recommendations of the ministerial committee, and will study all proposals to raise the capacity of the health sector in the province to enable it to control the epidemic.

He pointed out that the increase in the registered injuries in Hebron is worrisome, and requires cooperation and complementarity in the efforts between all official and popular parties. He called for more commitment to health measures that would enable crews to control the epidemic and reduce its spread.

The Palestinian police closed 177 shops, detained 52 vehicles, and withdrew 74 driving licenses in the governorates of Tulkarm, Salfit, Nablus, Ramallah, Al-Bireh, Hebron, and Jenin, because their owners did not comply with the instructions issued by the government on the closure imposed on the West Bank governorates, to prevent the spread of the epidemic.
