Quatre Cantons is a bar that, in the heart of the old town of Lérida, is located a few meters from the Jericó hostel, whose facilities were closed yesterday, after detecting one of the outbreaks that led to the confinement of the Catalan region of Segrià. As dozens of temps crowded outside the bar, hardly any of the homeless people who were housed in the hostel - and who are now prohibited from leaving - took the opportunity to peek outside through the windows.

Facing the bustle around the Quatre Cantons, the silence around the hostel. In front of the crowd concentrated in the Quatre Cantons, the semi-empty terraces in the center of Lérida. The capital received the confinement yesterday with surprise ... and with the deserted streets. Except for the junction between Tallada and Boters, where the Quatre Cantons is located.

Mamoudou is one of those seasonal workers who arrived in Lleida for the fruit harvest campaign. Without papers, without having even been able to see his daughter, who lives in Salamanca, after the end of the state of alarm, she has been in Lérida for six months, where she has at least found work in the fields. Originally from Senegal, he claims to be concerned about the situation. "It seems that we are living a movie, although I do not think that the problem is the temporary because I do not know anyone infected with coronavirus," he says.

"This hurts us, we are pointed out as if we were the culprits, but it is a lie," insists Mamoudou, concerned more about the stigmatization of the group than the real possibility of catching it. And that recognizes that protective measures for farm workers are a pipe dream: «Measures against contagion? In the field there is no law. If you ask me if we wear a mask ... well it depends. If you have to buy it, I tell you no ».

Djibril is another Senegalese young man who denies knowing any infected seasonal worker. "I am very worried about what might happen to us, but I do have a mask and they give me hand gel," he says. «I am lucky to have a house to sleep, although it is true that the conditions in which we work are very harsh. Nobody remembers us, only now ».

The fear that infections will spread among the thousands of seasonal workers who work in the Segrià region - and who live in many cases in unsanitary conditions - has been one of the reasons that have led the Generalitat to take an emergency measure. In this case, that of setting up a field hospital next to the Arnau Hospital in Vilanova de Lérida, although yesterday it was still closed and not working. The image that comes to certify that, for the moment, in the Catalan city tranquility reigns despite everything.

In fact, the hospital center staff confirmed that yesterday was actually a smooth day. In the early afternoon, five possible cases of Covid-19 had entered the ER. The security protocol is strictly adhered to, although without news despite the confinement of the region: PCR test for everyone who enters or is operated on in the hospital.

«Everything is quite calm. There is concern, yes, but it seems that there should be more movement and it is not really that bad, "says Ramón. A neighbor of the neighboring region of El Pla d'Urgell, yesterday he moved without problems to the Arnau de Vilanova. And, indeed, despite the fact that from 16:00 the region should be closed, no control prevented access by the C-12, in the direction of Lleida, half an hour later. What's more, very little was the traffic that yesterday afternoon ran on this road.

Next to the hospital is also another of the places on which the focus has been placed in recent days: the Castrillón nursing home. Another outbreak of concern was located here, affecting both residents and workers. Even so, sources from the residence stressed yesterday that it is practically controlled, two weeks after being detected: «The situation is calm. Now we have material and we know what to do. Nothing to do with the March nightmare.
