• Fiscalidad.Garamendi rejects in Moncloa the increase of taxes of Sanchez: "I have already warned the president, it is not time"

Extraordinary meeting of the Council of Ministers to approve another battery of economic averages and, surprisingly, the spokesperson for the Executive and Minister of Finance, María Jesús Montero, will not appear to report on them at the usual press conference.

Moncloa reported this morning that this appointment with the media is not scheduled today, that it is carried out systematically and that it has only been avoided on some very punctual occasion, such as when the Government of Mariano Rajoy approved the abdication of King Juan Carlos I and the bill that regulated the succession at the head of state.

Today, on the other hand, the Executive has approved a series of economic measures such as the concession of a new line of ICO guarantees of 50,000 million for business investment projects, a fund of 10,000 to support the solvency of companies through the SEPI, the Renove 2020 Plan to incentivize the purchase of electric vehicles and a mortgage moratorium for properties linked to tourism activity. And despite this, the Executive declines to report it to the media and will only send press releases about what was approved.

The explanation offered by Executive sources is that they have been "led" to this format. Immediately after the celebration of the Council of Ministers, the Pact for Economic Reactivation and Employment is signed with employers and unions -CEOE, CEPYME, UGT and CCOO- in an act in Moncloa attended by the President of the Government, Pedro Sánchez, his four vice presidents -Carmen Calvo, Pablo Iglesias, Nadia Calviño and Teresa Ribera- and the heads of the ministries of Finance; Job; Industry, Commerce and Tourism; e Inclusion and Social Security.

As the measures approved in the Council of Ministers, the same sources point out, are the basis of the pact, it has been chosen to dispense with the appearance of the spokesperson, by the "concatenation" of the two acts. It is also noted that "it is not an ordinary council". At today's event with the social partners, in addition, only graphic informants have been allowed to attend.

This decision, and the justification offered, has led to a "resounding" condemnation of the Madrid Press Association this Friday afternoon, which alludes to a "practically unprecedented" event, except for the day on which the abdication of the King. For this reason, it has demanded that the Government "not repeat this situation again, which supposes a breach of the duty of the political leaders to submit to the scrutiny of public opinion through the media."

With unilateral actions like this, they continue, "the function of journalists and the media to keep citizens informed is limited, in accordance with the constitutional right to information." Communication by means of press releases, the formula chosen today by the Executive, does not allow "asking or re-asking".

They have also denounced that journalists have not been able to access the event this morning with business and union organizations in La Moncloa since only graphic editors have been allowed, which prevents the possibility of asking.

The Government has already starred in several encounters with the press since Pedro Sánchez's arrival in La Moncloa. Firstly, because of his refusal to attend the media in Spain and prefer to always do so when he is traveling abroad. Already during this legislature, after the decree of state of alarm that started the confinement, due to Moncloa's refusal, he has enabled a system that allows journalists to ask the president by videoconference, directly, and not through a WhatsApp chat which favored a previous filter. The protest of the journalists who habitually cover the information of the Executive and a series of subsequent accessions of the entire profession, including the press associations, forced to modify this method.
