Aubervilliers, one of the communist bastions of Seine-Saint-Denis, changes color. Karine Franclet, the UDI candidate, created the surprise by seizing the town hall in the second round of the municipal election. According to provisional results, the candidate would have won 45% of the vote, far ahead of the outgoing PCF mayor, Meriem Derkaoui who would only get 23% of the votes.

The result in Aubervilliers

In the first round, Karine Franclet, invested by the centrist party and supported by LR, LREM and the Modem, came in first with 25.69% of the votes. The outgoing mayor, who came third, had joined the citizen list. His former assistant, Sofienne Karroumi (DVG), who obtained 19.08% on March 15, turned to the socialist Marc Guerrien and Jean-Jacques Karman (PCF).

It is not the first time that the UDI has captured a communist municipality in the department. In 2014, Saint-Ouen and Bobigny had experienced the same fate.

But six years later, the two city officials were defeated: in the first, William Delannoy lost to the socialist Karim Bouamrane. In Bobigny, the municipality became communist again after the election of Abdel Sadi.
