Residents of the Pré Perché square were worried after the disappearance of a royal python. He was found on June 27, 2020. - C. Allain / 20 Minutes

Relief. Saturday evening, the Rennes firefighters were called for an original intervention. Residents reported that they had found a royal python in the Pré-Perché square, a park located in the city center of the Breton capital. The snake had escaped from its vivarium installed in a ground floor apartment and had been missing since Tuesday.

The disappearance of the animal in the wild had sown a slight wind of panic in the residences bordering the square. Parents forbade their children to go play in the park, for fear of seeing the animal appear. A meter long, the constricting snake did not present a priori a great danger for the population but the prospect of crossing its path worried more than one.

You can own a royal python at home

Thursday evening, the firefighters had already been alerted by young people from the neighborhood who thought they heard his whistle. The emergency services had found nothing. The animal was finally found near the owner's home.

It is not prohibited to have a royal python at home. The animal is the smallest species of African python.
