The people join behind the country's leadership in times of crisis. In most of Europe's countries, the ruling party has advanced in opinion during the corona crisis, as is the case in Sweden, where the Social Democrats increased by over eight percentage points from February to May.

Greater focus on deficiencies in handling

But lately, the public debate has been more about weaknesses in the Swedish strategy for dealing with the corona pandemic. Perhaps this is what is now visible in SVT / Novus latest voter barometer.

Compared to last month, all changes are within the statistical margin of error, but seen over a few months backwards the trend is clear.

- The big changes are that the rise of the Social Democrats is now broken. The Swedish Democrats plan out after three months of decline and the Moderates will continue for the third month in a row, says Torbjörn Sjöström, CEO of Novus.

"Moderates have taken back the role of opposition leader"

In February, the Swedish Democrats were Sweden's largest party. Now they are down in third place and the Moderates have won ground.

- The moderates have been going slowly but surely upwards for three months in a row now. They are now the second largest party with little margin and have taken back the role of being opposition leader, says Torbjörn Sjöström.

L and MP below the dash

Both the Liberals and the Environment Party continue to find it difficult, they would both fall out of the Riksdag if there were elections today.
