Li Keqiang, President of the European Council Michelle and President of the European Commission Feng Delaine co-chaired the 22nd China-EU Leaders Meeting

Expand Two-way Opening, Deepen Pragmatic Cooperation and Achieve Mutual Benefit and Win-Win

On the afternoon of June 22, Premier Li Keqiang of the State Council co-chaired the 22nd China-EU Leaders Meeting with President of the European Council Michelle and President of the European Commission Feng Delaine in the Great Hall of the People. The meeting was held by video.

Li Keqiang said that China and the EU are comprehensive strategic partners of each other. The cooperation between the two sides is far greater than the competition, and the consensus is far more than the differences. China attaches great importance to its relations with Europe, and President Xi Jinping will hold a video meeting with you. In the 45 years since the establishment of diplomatic relations, the relationship between China and the EU has maintained the main theme of cooperation, enhanced the well-being of both peoples, and injected more stability into the complex and changing world. China has always supported the process of European integration and hopes to see a united and prosperous Europe. Both sides should look at China-EU relations from a long-term perspective and a broader perspective, adhere to the positioning of China-EU comprehensive strategic partners, enhance understanding through enhanced dialogue, and achieve mutually beneficial and win-win results through deepened cooperation, and jointly contribute to maintaining world peace, stability and development and prosperity.

Li Keqiang pointed out that China and Europe are both major world economies. In the face of the huge impact of the new coronary pneumonia epidemic, the two sides should strengthen macroeconomic policy coordination, jointly maintain the stability of the supply chains in China, Europe and the global industrial chain, and provide impetus for the world economic recovery. Strive to complete the negotiation of the China-EU Investment Agreement within this year and reach a comprehensive, balanced and high-level investment agreement. Sign the China-EU Geographical Indication Agreement at an early date. China is firmly committed to the path of peaceful development, unswervingly expanding and opening up, and is committed to creating a market-based, rule-of-law, and internationalized business environment for companies from all countries. European companies have benefited from it. It is hoped that the EU will also keep its trade and investment markets open, relax its export restrictions to China, and facilitate bilateral high-tech trade. On the basis of equality, reciprocity and mutual respect, China and Europe can expand two-way opening up and achieve better mutual benefits.

Li Keqiang stated that both China and Europe support multilateralism and free trade. We are willing to maintain communication with the EU on issues such as World Trade Organization reform, jointly safeguard the rules-based multilateral trading system, participate constructively in the multilateral process of addressing climate change, and continuously enrich the connotation of China-EU comprehensive strategic partnership. Continue to support the World Health Organization to play a leading role in the global cooperation against the epidemic, deepen cooperation in vaccine and drug research and development, and work together to overcome the epidemic as soon as possible.

Michelle and Von Delane said that this year is the 45th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Europe and China. Against the backdrop of many challenges facing the world today, Europe and China have maintained close communication and exchanges. During the fight against the epidemic, the two sides supported each other and united in fighting the epidemic. The epidemic has impacted all countries, but the willingness to cooperate between Europe and China has not weakened. The EU appreciates China's active participation in the relevant international anti-epidemic cooperation initiatives initiated by the EU, and is willing to strengthen economic recovery cooperation with China and jointly safeguard the safety of the supply chain of the industrial chain. It is hoped that the two sides will further expand market opening, strengthen interconnection, deepen cooperation in trade, investment, digital economy and other fields, and implement the goal of reaching an EU-China investment agreement within the year. The EU is willing to complete the EU-China Geographical Indication Agreement EU internal procedures as soon as possible. It is willing to deepen communication and coordination with China on the issue of WTO reform, strengthen cooperation in addressing climate change issues, and jointly safeguard multilateralism and free trade. Make efforts in a continuous and safer world.

The two sides also exchanged in-depth views on international and regional issues of common concern.

Wang Yi and He Lifeng attended the meeting.
