An exceptional auction dedicated to Pablo Picasso brought in more than six million euros on Thursday. It was the first organized by Sotheby's in London since the gradual lifting of containment in the United Kingdom.

The auction, which took place online, ended with the auction of 188 creations by the Spanish artist. Drawings, ceramics and even palettes used to make famous paintings ... the auction house raised 4.8 million pounds, or 6.1 million euros. Ceramics from the 1950s Large vase for naked women  won the highest stake, sold for 435,000 pounds (482,000 euros).

Sotheby's wants to develop digital sales

In all, more than 200 objects were offered for sale, including sixty from the personal collection of the artist's granddaughter, Marina Picasso, the rest from various collectors.

Sotheby's reopened to the public on Monday, like other "non-essential" businesses in the UK. But this online sale dedicated to Picasso, like the other auctions organized during the confinement, marks the shift made by the multinational, pandemic obliges: it has accelerated the development of digital media, such as interactive catalogs in augmented reality.
