Social media sites in Egypt were in a state of controversy, after the Egyptian Foreign Ministry announced its resort to the UN Security Council and called on it to intervene in order to emphasize continuing negotiations "in good faith" and reaching a "fair and balanced" solution to the issue of the Ethiopian Renaissance Dam.

Twitterers blamed President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi and his regime for the loss of Egypt's water rights, while others announced their support behind the president, expressing their conviction that the Egyptian army is capable of destroying the dam.

Cairo's decision to resort to the Security Council came after the recent negotiations on the Renaissance Dam stalled, and according to a statement issued by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, "All efforts have been stalled due to the lack of political will in Ethiopia, and its insistence on continuing to fill the Renaissance Dam unilaterally in violation of the Declaration of Principles agreement." .

Egypt relies almost entirely on the Nile for its fresh water, and considers the dam a potential existential threat. It says it is keen to reach a legally binding agreement that guarantees the minimum flow of Nile water with the establishment of a mechanism to resolve disputes before the Ethiopian dam begins operation.

Ethiopian accusations
In return, Ethiopian Foreign Minister Guido Andargashio announced that his country will start the process of filling the Renaissance Dam reservoir in July, whether an agreement is reached or not, at a time when Egypt calls the UN Security Council to intervene in order to resume the talks.

The Ethiopian minister accused Egypt of exaggerating its propaganda on the Renaissance Dam, and that it was engaged in a political gamble according to his expression, adding that his country would not ask permission from anyone to implement development projects on its water resources.

A day after Egypt submitted a request to the Security Council, Sisi directed the armed forces to prepare to defend national security inside and outside the nation's borders.

"The Egyptian army is one of the most powerful armies in the region, but it is a rational army ... that protects and does not threaten ... and is able to defend Egypt's national security inside and outside the borders of the homeland," Sisi said during his visit to the elements of the western military region.

Sisi’s statements contributed to the increase in the controversy, at a time that others welcomed and considered it as evidence of Egypt’s strength and its army. Others asked whether it was logical for Ethiopia to threaten Egypt from the south, so Sisi lost his forces on the border with Libya in the west.

Many of the tweeters expressed their annoyance at the performance of the President and the Egyptian negotiating team in the Renaissance Dam crisis, stressing that Sisi waived Egypt's water rights by signing the Principles Agreement in 2015.

The Rashid Army is working and
Sisi does not threaten its solution.
Ethiopia has the right to search for its interests. By
God the Great, we will not touch the waters of the Nile in Egypt.

# Al-Nahdha Dam
Article 10 of the Principles Agreement does not include the Security Council
10- The principle of the peaceful settlement of disputes:
- The three countries settle their disputes arising from the interpretation or application of this agreement by consensus through consultations or negotiations in accordance with the principle of good intentions. If the parties did not succeed in resolving the dispute through.

The snake serpent, Amr Adeeb, at his entrances with Sameh Shoukry, who says what cards are in the hands of Egypt now? He said that we will inform the Security Council of what happened, the intransigence of Ethiopia, the failure of negotiations with them, and their insistence on filling the dam with a unilateral decision !! It is time for the negotiator to step down ...
Urges Mr. Imad Hussein, the Egyptians, to stand as one behind the president in the negotiations of the # Renaissance Dam, and he forgets that he is the same negotiator who drugged the Egyptians with the illusion of six years about "Ethiopia's commitment to the interest of Egypt", the same negotiator who pledged the name of Egypt to the war criminal Hifter In Libya, 7 years failed in Sinai .. https://t.co/TC6ollTip4

One of the greatest scenes was caricature, the scene of Sisi Al-Hammam dictating the oath of “Abi Ahmed” not to harm Egypt. If it had been "Morsi" who would have done it, he would have approached Sisawyah until he died.
Now whatever Egypt goes into the epidemic of thirst and humiliation, Al-Sesawi will find a justification and excuses for his children. His first concern is Sisi, not Egypt. # Dam_Al-Nahdha pic.twitter.com/sEjwRdxKmj

The failure of the irrigation ministers meeting on # Al-Nahdha Dam yesterday It is not surprising that
the Egyptian government admitted that # Ethiopia used the meeting to confirm its decision to mobilize the dam without a
negotiation agreement whose goal is to use time only
unjustified Ethiopian intransigence confirms the regional plans for Egypt’s water and economic blockade and its impoverishment and weakening

Negotiations begging # Egypt from Ethiopia # on the dam of the Renaissance are worthless, for all Ethiopian officials have explicitly said that Sisi signed a waiver of # Egypt in the waters of the Nile and drank from the sea. Distraction is nothing more, nothing less

In turn, Sisi's supporters insist that Egypt has dealt a heavy blow to Ethiopia after heading to the Security Council, and that this step will force Addis Ababa to respect the negotiations and not take unilateral steps.

Others expressed their reassurance about Egypt's victory in the end because of the intelligence of the President and the strength of the "great" Egyptian army that left Ethiopia constructing the dam and to demolish it later, to incur heavy losses, they said.

Going forward and abandoning previous commitments, and therefore, Egypt has no choice but to resort to the Security Council to put an end to this methodology and challenge the countries concerned.

Urgent:
Egypt submitted a request to the Security Council to inform him that Egypt, Sudan and Ethiopia have not reached an agreement and
informed him that Ethiopia's actions disturb international peace and security, and that the Security Council stand up to its responsibilities to maintain international peace and security and compel Ethiopia not to take any unilateral action.

“The tone of Egypt is very strong.”
