The driver of a dump truck, tried in immediate appearance Monday before the criminal court of Narbonne (Aude), was sentenced to 18 months in prison. A few days ago, customs officials had made a fruitful discovery, on the A9 motorway, at Narbonne, in a dump truck from Germany: in this vehicle, driven by this driver of Bulgarian nationality, the indoor surveillance brigade found just under 303,000 euros, hidden in a garbage bag. "Undeclared" money, say the customs authorities.
A fitted box
Apprehended by customs officials, the driver reportedly went to Barcelona, Spain, to collect equipment. But an in-depth examination of the small truck will enable the agents to note "the presence of a box fitted out under the entire length of the platform". By dismantling the rear bumper, they will get their hands on a trash bag, inside which were conditioned banknotes.
In 2019, customs intercepted 54.7 million euros for “lack of declaration” or “false declaration of money”, and noted 209 cases of money laundering (+ 8% in one year).
