A member of the Emirates Scholars Council, the official spokesman for the advanced science sector in the country, and head of the scientific research team at the Corona Virus Control and Control Center, Dr. Alwi Al Sheikh, said that the UAE will have a complete map of the virus strains before the end of this year, indicating that there are five categories It is essential for the scientific community in the country to conduct dozens of scientific research and studies on Corona.

Dr. Alwi explained to «Emirates Today» that the scientific community in the country is working on dozens of research and studies to confront the Corona virus, which can be classified into five main areas, which are “studying and understanding the emerging corona virus, developing medical devices for diagnosis and treatment, and developing Digital tools and programs to help reduce stress on health facilities, simulate the spread and movement of casualties, and the psychological and health impact on society.

He pointed out that after the completion of the map of the strains of the Corona virus in the country, the global scientific community will be provided with it, to help in understanding the nature of the virus more accurately and clearly.

On the expected time to finish studies, he explained that the time varies in each study, some of which show results within months, and the other may take years, so one of the studies is based on understanding the cause of the different symptoms of the disease through the genetic sequence of the patient and the virus, and the collection of samples was completed last month , And we are expected to have a complete map of the virus strains in the next few months.

Map of the Corona Spread Pattern

The scientific research team at the Corona Virus Control and Control Center has succeeded in registering the first complete genome sequence of the emerging corona virus in the UAE, in cooperation between researchers from the Mohammed bin Rashid University of Medicine and Health Sciences and the Dubai Health Authority, and the genomics laboratory at the Jalila Children's Hospital in Last April, within a comprehensive research study of 240 patients of different ages and genders, stages of disease severity and time of infection. This study will help draw a clear map of the spread of the epidemic in the country, know the relationship between specific strains of the virus and the severity of symptoms, or the patient's age and gender, and better understand how Covid-19 affects different races and ages.
