Veronica Maggio received the award at a ceremony in the garden at Uppsala Castle on Monday.
She was born in Uppsala in 1981 and grew up on Rackarberget. As a 17-year-old she moved to Stockholm but has often returned to her birthplace in her song lyrics.
The motivation reads:
“ From the inner courtyards on Rackarberget to sold-out arenas, she has broken new popular musical ground with her poetry about love care and youth's clumsiness, the hometown's imprint and the way from there. Her second album from 2008 sold both platinum and became the entry ticket to generations of young hearts. For his ever-growing music treasure and toned portrayal of a modern urban existence, Uppsala daughter Veronica Maggio is awarded the honorary education of the year 2020. ”

The award is presented by the governor to someone born or active in Uppsala county who has made particularly significant efforts for the future and development of the county.
