A Hebrew television channel confirmed Israel’s fear that European sanctions could be imposed on it, if it implemented its plan to annex the occupied West Bank settlements.

The official "Kan" channel reported in a report on Wednesday evening that Israeli crews are studying the options that Europeans can use to punish Israel.

For the European Union to impose sanctions on Israel, the move must win the consensus of its 27 countries, according to the channel.

The channel added that Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has developed friendly relations with leaders of some countries of the European Union, including Poland, the Czech Republic, Austria and Hungary in particular.

It is expected that these countries will oppose any anti-Israel move by the Union, and frustrate any consensus around it.

But the channel revealed sanctions that the European Union can impose without a vote, and one of these sanctions is to prevent Israel from joining the Horizon Europe 2021 initiative, an agreement that will be in effect for seven years.

Through the initiative, Israel will receive large sums of money, in the framework of scientific and technological cooperation.

Today, European Union experts in Brussels are drafting the terms of the agreement.

European countries can independently impose sanctions on Israel as a state in exchange for a state, without the need for joint action with the union.

These countries can, for example, impose a ban on the products of Israeli settlements, and they can also recognize the state of Palestine, or prohibit the sale of goods and weapons that Israel needs.

And if a heavy European country like France and Spain recognizes Palestine, it will seriously harm the policy of the Israeli government, according to the channel.

It is noteworthy that Netanyahu announced on more than one occasion that his government wants to start annexing 30% of the West Bank area next July, within what is known as the American Century deal.

During his visit to Israel on Wednesday, German Foreign Minister Haikou Maas warned that European countries would impose sanctions on Tel Aviv if the settlements were annexed.

He said it would be difficult for Germany, which will take over the presidency of the European Union early next month, to prevent the implementation of these measures.

Mas explained that the step that these European countries will take will be the recognition of the Palestinian state.

In the same context, the heads of the European Union missions in Palestine started a tour of a number of West Bank villages to find out the practices of the occupation and the settlers against the residents of these villages.

The official and popular Palestinian rejection of the Israeli annexation plan is escalating, along with international warnings that it will eliminate the possibility of settling the conflict according to the principle of a two-state solution.
