by Tiziana Di Giovannandrea 25 May 2020 The meeting convened by the Ministry of Economic Development on the fate of the former Ilva between Government-union representatives and ArcelorMittal ended with the declaration by the State of being ready to join the shareholder base of ArcelorMittal Italia while the steel company will present the industrial plan for the former Ilva in 10 days. Unions are perplexed, today strike in all factories.

Economy Minister Roberto Gualtieriin the meeting said: "The state is willing to intervene directly to have a strong Ilva, which produces a lot, which is a world leader, which has 10,700 employees, who makes significant investments with the intervention of the direct and indirect state". Furthermore, Gualtieri considered the "reasonable extension" with respect to the "presentation of the industrial plan" by ArcelorMittal Italia.

For her part Lucia Morselli , CEO of ArcelorMittal Italia has assured that the commitments made will be honored, despite the current difficulties caused by Covid-19, without prejudice to the intentions of wanting to make the company great. "In February and until March 10, we doubled our daily production compared to last year. Mittal's intention was to make this company great and the intention remains the same even now," said Morselli, adding: " Maintaining the integrity of the Taranto plants and its importance at European level ".

Unions, however, are very perplexed. Today's meeting, in fact, took place with the striking factories: 4 hours in all the ex Ilva sites while in Taranto the workers stopped for 8 hours.

For Fiom, the union agreement which provides for full employment remains valid. Francesca Re David , Fiom-CGIL general secretary highlighted: "We do not know the business plan, the corporate composition and the possible public entry of the Government. During the pandemic, workers were asked to work, now the blocking phase is over, due to the "Covid-19 emergency, all plants are at a minimum and there are no investments. There is a situation of instability and no prospect for the future. It is an absolutely unacceptable picture." King David points out that: "There is an ongoing dialogue between the Government and ArcelorMittal but the unions are cut off. We are not going to be called only to manage the redundancies and the Redundancy Fund".

For the Fim Cisl, Marco Bentivogli , general secretary together with the national secretary, Valerio D'Alò observe: "Regarding what the company has proposed on the current situation of
the Ami group, an element
unknown to us has been introduced in the discussion . An agreement which would have been initialed on March 4, 2020 and never presented to trade unions ".

Forthe Uilm, Rocco Palombella , general secretary, says: "We need a special law for the former Ilva, to mitigate the occupation disaster, economic and social."

For Ugl Metalmeccanici, Antonio Spera  national secretary Ugl Metalmeccanici comments: "A new plan in 10 days? We are yet another postponement and the problem is not only this '' while the provincial secretary of Taranto, Domenico Gigante . '' Like all the unions we complained about the scarce industrial relations, the dialogue in fact absent between the parties, given that we learn the news from the workers present inside the factories ".

The meeting between the parties was updated in ten days when Mittal will present the business plan.
