The Prosecutor's Office of the Supreme Court has taken over the investigation derived from the Investigative Proceedings of the Prosecutor's Office against Corruption and Organized Crime known as the AVE commissions to Mecca where the King Emeritus, Juan Carlos de Borbón, affected by the Second Chamber of the High Court.

The investigation refers to Phase II of the construction of the high-speed railway line, the so-called "Desert AVE" that connects the cities of Medina and Mecca, in Saudi Arabia.

This investigation focuses, precisely, on delimiting or ruling out the criminal relevance of the events that occur after the month of June 2014, at which time King Emeritus was no longer protected by the inviolability that article 56.3 of the Spanish Constitution recognizes. to the Head of State. Therefore, it is necessary to carry out new proceedings that directly affect the King Emeritus, who, as is known, is currently before the Second Chamber of the Supreme Court.
