Morbihan firefighters took to the water on Saturday to rescue a man in difficulty at Larmor-Plage, near Lorient. This man, in his thirties, had obviously fallen from his tender and was trying somehow to bring his boat back to dry land. He found himself in great difficulty, trapped in a thick layer of green algae.

These are witnesses who alerted the firefighters around 6 p.m., seeing the man in bad shape in the Zanflamme cove, in Kernevel. Shirtless, the man could not reach the shore and was rescued by two firefighters. He was taken care of and transported by SMUR in relative emergency to the Scorff hospital center, in Lorient.

Residents alerted to the return of green algae to the cove

The images broadcast by Ouest-France clearly show the presence of algae, surrounding the victim and the emergency services. With shallow water, the handle of Zanflamme is regularly lined with green algae. In recent days, some residents of the area had started to alert of the massive presence of ulvae in Kernevel.

The prefecture of Brittany announced at the end of April that strandings of green algae should be late this year, in particular due to the weather conditions of this winter, which dispersed the algae at sea. The sudden warming of temperatures in May undoubtedly accelerated their arrival on the coast.
