Several months of statistics have disappeared in Brazil. The Latin American country withdrew several months of statistics on the coronavirus epidemic in the country on Saturday 6 June from a public website and has stopped reporting the total number of cases of contamination and deaths, the Ministry of Health having only reported the results of the past twenty-four hours.

"The cumulative data (...) does not reflect when the country is in," President Jair Bolsonaro said on Twitter, citing a note from the Ministry of Health. "Other measures are being prepared to improve the identification of cases and the confirmation of diagnoses".

Neither Bolsonaro, who regularly downplayed the dangers of the epidemic, nor the Ministry of Health provided any reason for the deletion of the data by date, municipality and state that appeared on the official site dedicated to the coronavirus.

The page was deleted on Friday to make way for a new presentation and reduced data on Saturday, showing only deaths, new cases and remissions in the past 24 hours.

More than 672,000 confirmed cases - the second largest total in the world after the United States - and nearly 36,000 deaths had been recorded in total by the weekend.

The health ministry reported on Saturday evening 27,075 cases and 904 deaths in the past twenty-four hours.

In the past week, Brazil has reported more daily cases and deaths for four consecutive days than any other country in the world.
