Borussia Dortmund consolidated their second place in the Bundesliga on Saturday by painstakingly defeating Hertha Berlin 1-0 behind closed doors.

Emre Can put in the bottom of the very first shot on target for his team after almost an hour of play (1-0, 58th), a beautiful curled right foot at the edge of the surface.

With 63 points four days to go, coach Lucien Favre's men have a safety margin over their pursuers, who have all stumbled this weekend.

Leipzig (59 pts) were held at home by the red lantern Paderborn (1-1), Mönchengladbach and Leverkusen (56 pts each) lost, respectively in Freiburg (1-0) and against Bayern Munich (2- 4), who is just one step away from the title, seven points ahead of Dortmund.

The Hertha, who were the team in shape since the post-coronavirus recovery (10 pts taken out of 12 possible in May), offered a good resistance and prevented the Sancho, Haaland and other stars of the BVB from deploying their game.

Deprived of its famous public, Borussia had great difficulty in setting the pace to destabilize the opposing defense and a draw would not have been unworthy for the players of the capital, quietly seated in 9th place in the middle of the table.
