• Elections: the vote of 538,000 Galicians and Basques in the autonomous communities of 12-J for Covid-19 in South America is in danger
  • 12-J. Basque Country and Galicia will call regional elections for July 12
  • Politics: Sánchez gives Ortuzar the Minimum Vital Income in the Basque Country and Navarra before his Government approves it

Question.- Why are the two deputies of Unión del Pueblo Navarro (UPN) going to vote against the extension of the state of alarm when they have previously supported it?

Answer.- Because from the health point of view the situation has changed and the pandemic is clearly reducing. We were told and the president himself announced that he was going to work on other measures to the state of alarm. We were told that the fifth extension was the last because we were going to work on other alternatives, but it has not been fulfilled. Furthermore, we believe that Congress has become a bazaar in which Pedro Sánchez is negotiating with the Basque and Catalan independentists about anything that has nothing to do with health security. This is not serious. We will vote no with the same responsibility as on other occasions we have voted yes and we have abstained.

Q.- You are president of UPN but also as leader of the Navarra Suma coalition that PP and Ciudadanos complete, how do you rate the yes of the Arrimadas group in Congress to this sixth extension?

A.- I am sure that Arrimadas knows that Sánchez is not to be trusted. This is evident. They have set a political strategy to separate from the PP and, from there, I do not make evaluations because just as I want them to respect my positions, I respect those of others.

Q.- But if Ciudadanos becomes a stable partner of Sánchez and Iglesias, would the continuity of their coalition in Navarra make sense?

R.- I do not see Citizens supporting Sánchez's budgets with ERC and EH Bildu.

Q.- Why did you not demand anything from Sánchez in exchange for UPN's support for the state of alarm?

R.- Because it is not good for Spain. If the Spanish and therefore the Navarrese needed a state of alarm, there should not be marketing, there should not be a change of trading cards. It seems very disrespectful to the country as a whole. You have to have state responsibility at a time like this. We are in a state of alarm with which to face a pandemic that has cost thousands of lives.

Q.- The PNV is doing very well with this strategy and they even want to copy it as Vice-President Oltra did, claiming in Basque the same treatment with the Minimum Vital Income, what consequences does this weakness for Sánchez have?

A.- It is not good for Spain or Navarra. Navarra has a guaranteed income much higher than the Minimum Life Income and now a part of what we dedicate will be paid by the Government of Spain as it will be with the rest of the autonomous communities. In 2006, a UPN government made basic income a subjective right and we have been developing it ever since. There is no more euro for the most vulnerable in Navarra. But the PNV is trying to place a fictitious medal to give the impression that in Navarra it has a lot to say.

Q.- Why do PNV and EH Bildu include clauses on Navarra when they negotiate with Sánchez?

R.- The two parties want to annex Navarra and make it disappear to build the great Basque nation. Navarra is the pearl that Basque nationalism lacks to provoke the rupture in Spain. We must be clear.

Q.- Were you surprised to see the logo of the PSOE together with that of EH Bildu in the document signed to repeal the labor reform?

A.- No. Sánchez is president for Bildu and Chivite is president for Bildu. Sánchez is complicit in the Basque independence movement that wants to break Spain. It is strengthening the independence project with transfers that should be negotiated at the institutional level and outside the measures against the pandemic. Navarra is subjected to a game with the Basque nationalists and with it the unity of Spain is at stake. The regional government is trampled underfoot to satisfy a nationalism that seeks the annexation of Navarre. Socialism had never crossed this line. Sánchez is helping to give legitimacy to ETA's front men, to EH Bildu. It is very serious. In Navarra, Chivite presides, governs the PNV and decides EH Bildu.
