  • Nicolas Florian and Thomas Cazenave announced the merger of their two lists for the second round of the municipal elections.
  • Thomas Cazenave will be positioned in third position in this new union list, and obtains thirteen positions in an eligible position.
  • Nicolas Florian has also announced that he would not seek the presidency of the metropolis, wanting to be 100% mayor, it is Thomas Cazenave who will bring "the voice of the city" to the metropolitan council.

After the announcement Monday of the merger of their two lists, Nicolas Florian, LR candidate for his re-election in Bordeaux, and Thomas Cazenave, who had been invested by LREM, gave their first joint press conference on Wednesday. Where we learn a little more about the project they will carry, and the role that each will take on within this new tandem. Here is what to remember from the announcements of the two new running mate.

Is the election now captive with this union?

"From experience, I prefer additions to subtractions, replied Nicolas Florian. The message we send to Bordeaux and Bordeaux residents is that we are a union. If we take the results of the first round, we represent with Thomas 50% of those who moved [Nicolas Florian had achieved 34.56% and Thomas Cazenave 12.69%], and our ambition is to further expand this membership. "

What will be the role of each in this new "tandem"?

"What is important is that we are represented at our weight in the first round," insisted Thomas Cazenave, who will appear in third position in this new union list, and who obtains thirteen positions in an eligible position. These are the terms of our agreement. Afterwards, there are themes in which I was particularly involved in this campaign, such as the city of neighborhoods, the transformation of public services, the metropolitan question too, with the confidence that I have in tomorrow to carry the voice of Bordeaux. to the metropolis in terms of economic recovery. And we will be keen to continue to carry these dimensions together. "For Nicolas Florian," it is not a question of establishing a casting before the election, and we will wait to see the choice of the voters to know who will be added to that ... "

How to reconcile the projects of the two candidates?

"When you watch the Florian-Cazenave programs, and you superimpose them, there is still a common front of 80% of ideas," assures Nicolas Florian. The ecological transition will be at the heart of the common program, we already found it in each of our projects. In detail, I did not identify any hard point between us. But the financial question will arise and we have agreed, for example, that if we make an effort to redevelop the Meriadeck district, my swimming pool project on the docks may no longer be the priority. We will also completely revise the Rue Bordelaise project [a huge shopping street between Saint-Jean station and the platforms]. We must resume this file, respecting the developer, Euratlantique, who carries it, but it will be part of the files that we will look at as a priority, on the best way to adapt this project to our ambition. "

"The crisis is a game-changer," confirms Thomas Cazenave. We are entering a recession that has never been known in the country. There is a risk for our territory of 30,000 more job seekers. Of course you have to look at this new situation on the major investment priorities, we cannot continue as if nothing had happened. "

What will be the role of each within Bordeaux Métropole?

Regarding the possibility of running for the presidency of the metropolis, Nicolas Florian announced that he had "thought about this a lot": "I have evolved. "Given the period we are going through, I want to be 100% Bordeaux, it's the urgency of the moment. Of course I am not disinterested in metropolitan issues, I will sit in the metropolis and I will help. Furthermore, the ordeal we are going through will have an impact on finances, which will mean prioritizing major developments. The question of extensions of public transport lines is at the heart of the coming years, it will have to be put into perspective. Choices will have to be made. Finally, I consider that we must work together so that direct suffrage applies to metropolitan areas, which should have been the case in 2020 but it was postponed. "

Thomas Cazenave announced for his part that Nicolas Florian "offered to assume the role of leader to defend our interests in the metropolis." "But we are not mistaken in an election," he adds: "we are on a municipal election in Bordeaux, metropolitan time will come after. "Thomas Cazenave is however already considering" a metropolitan project "which will" have to be built as soon as the metropolitan teams are installed after the second round of the municipal elections.
