  • On June 28, during the second round of municipal elections, the battle will be fierce in Auvergne Rhône-Alpes, in several cities where the alliances of the in-between towers threaten the outgoing mayor.
  • In other large cities, however, the election promises to be without suspense, like Grenoble and Saint-Etienne.

From one city to another, the atmosphere will not be the same in Auvergne Rhône-Alpes on the evening of the second round of municipal elections. If in several large municipalities in the region, the election promises to be no surprise, in others, it seems difficult to say who will be seated in the mayor's chair after the election. 20 Minutes explains the challenges of this June 28 in these cities with high suspense and low challenges.

A complicated mission for the outgoing mayor in Chambéry

Chambéry is one of the cities to scrutinize on the evening of the second round. Outgoing mayor LR Michel Dantin came out on top in the first round, with 38.95% of the vote. Behind him, Thierry Repentin (Miscellaneous left, 22.64%) and environmentalist Aurélie Le Meur (22.46%) announced the merger of their list. An alliance that clearly endangers the former MEP, head of Chambéry since 2014.

A second round without surprise in Grenoble

The games seem to be made in Grenoble where the ecologist Eric Piolle came largely in the lead on March 15, winning 46.67% of the vote. The outgoing mayor, at the head of a coalition including EELV, France Insoumise, the Communist Party and Generation. s is the big favorite, especially since his opponents did not manage to make an alliance for the second round. In this quadrangular, voters will have the choice between the Piolle list, that of the former mayor of Grenoble Alain Carignon, supported but not invested by LR (19.81%), the candidate LREM Emilie Chalas (13.75%) and former socialist Olivier Noblecourt (13.21%).

Triangulaire à Annecy, the outgoing mayor badly embarked

UDI mayor of Annecy since 2007 Jean-Luc Rigaut, supported in particular by LREM, may have come out on top, the outcome of the second round is likely to be less favorable. Two of his opponents, the ecologist François Astorg (27.87%) and the former LREM deputy Frédérique Lardet (21.50%) have indeed joined forces, mathematically multiplying the chances of capturing the town hall. Arriving fourth on the evening of March 15, with 10.04% of the votes, the unlabeled candidate Denis Duperthuy will also be present in the second round.

Republican Gaël Perdriau on track for second term

Another big city in Rhône-Alpes where the second round should take place without surprise: Saint-Etienne (Loire). Mayor LR Gaël Perdriau, head of the City for six years, recorded such an advance in the first round (46.88%) that the outcome of the duel which pitted him against socialist Pierrick Courbon on June 28 (21, 31%) seems without suspense. Even if the latter was joined between the two towers by the ecologist Olivier Longeon (12.42%).

Franck Reynier, mayor since 2001, in the dark

In Montélimar, the second round will see three candidates clash in great suspense. In this Drôme commune, the outgoing mayor Franck Reynier (24.16%) who wishes to re-stack for a fourth term, came in third position on March 15. He was preceded by Julien Cornillet (Various right) and Catherine Coutard (Various left), who won 34.22% and 25.58% of the votes respectively. Arriving fourth, the En Marche candidate Alice Thourot decided not to stay in the second round, where with the possible transfer of votes, the battle looks tough between the three opponents.
