The Turkish Ministry of Foreign Affairs informed the United Nations of the limits of the continental shelf and the new economic viability areas of Turkey in the eastern Mediterranean, based on the agreement to define the economic viability zones between Ankara and Tripoli.

And on Twitter for Twitter, the Turkish general manager of the sea and air borders at Tsavatay Argyas has published a map showing the new exploration fields.

Argyas said that Turkey had informed the United Nations of the new demarcation of the country's maritime borders, adding that the Turkish National Oil Company had requested a new license to explore and patrol the fields located in these waters.

He said that the oil company will be empowered to search and prospect for oil and other wealth within seven new economic jurisdiction areas within these borders, or authorize other parties to search for them.

It is noteworthy that Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan and Libyan Prime Minister Fayez al-Sarraj signed on November 27 a memorandum of understanding on defining areas of maritime jurisdiction, with the aim of protecting the rights of the two countries stemming from international law.

According to the memo, "Turkey and the Libyan government decided to work to determine the maritime areas in the Mediterranean Sea in a fair and just manner, in which they exercise all the rights of sovereignty, taking into account all relevant circumstances."
