The Public Prosecution office in Hadramaut Governorate, eastern Yemen, said it had begun procedures to collect evidence related to the discovery of a "gang formation" aimed at assassinating Major General Faraj Salmin Al-Bahsni, Governor of Hadramaut Governorate and the commander of the Second Military Region in the army.

The Public Prosecution added in a press statement that investigations are taking place with a number of this "gang formation" who have been seized, and that the preliminary results of the investigation showed the participation of others being tracked, "its aim is to assassinate the governor of Hadramout and spread chaos in the governorate, without clarifying who they are working for."

Yemeni media circulated news of the arrest of a number of employees and workers in the Hadramout Governorate Court in the same case, and according to Yemeni news websites quoted security sources, the attempt to assassinate the governor was discovered after controlling an attempt to extract private records from the governor's residence room by a technical official for the system Surveillance Cameras.

The same sources added that the technical official acknowledged the existence of a network operating in the governorate’s bureau consisting of eight people who worked within two weeks to monitor the governor’s movements, and to report on them to some authorities.

It is noteworthy that the governorate of Hadhramaut, which is under the control of the government, constitutes one third of the area of ​​Yemen, and the governorate is witnessing a security insecurity, targeting unknown persons from time to time, civilian, military and security officials and citizens therein.

For the sixth consecutive year, Yemen has been witnessing a war between pro-government forces and Houthi militants accused of receiving Iranian support and controlling provinces, including Sanaa, since September 2014.
