- It is often an accident. You have a small fire that you have control over but then it suddenly blows up. Then it goes away, you come after and can have a full chance to even get away, describes fire inspector Torbjörn Mattson at Uppsala fire defense.

At present there is a very high risk of ignition and the risk of fire spreading in woodland throughout Uppland, according to SMHI. The Rescue Service advises against burning in forest and land in all areas except Älvkarleby and urges to use only prepared barbecue places in nature and to drive garden waste to recycling stations instead of burning.

- It is above all that which lies and is dead that dries out now with weather and wind, says Torbjörn Mattson.

Forest fire outside Alunda

On Tuesday, an area of approximately 150x150 meters was burning in Gela, east of Alunda. The fire must have broken out in the middle of the forest - except for the danger of housing.

"It's a pretty big fire to be this early in the season, but we have control over it," says Fredrik Dackland, management operator at the Stockholm Rescue Center.

Corona pandemic and beautiful weather mean that more and more people are moving out in the wild.

- Feel free to bring something home-cooked from home and enjoy nature without burning, Torbjörn Mattson urges.
