Actor Omar Sy posted a photo on his social media during a demonstration in tribute to George Floyd, an African American killed by police violence in Minnesota just over a week ago. A death that sparked numerous protests across the United States.

"We walked in peace and solidarity shouting the names of George, Breonna, Ahmaud and so many other victims here in the US." On his Instagram account, actor Omar Sy appeared in a demonstration this weekend in Los Angeles in support of George Floyd, the 46-year-old African American whose death provoked in the United States "more of troubles like that of Martin Luther King ", says the former French ambassador, Gérard Araud.

Yesterday in Los Angeles we walked in peace and solidarity shouting the names of George, Breonna, Ahmaud and so many other victims here in the US. Via this post and this photo, I also shout the name of Adama Traore, who, in France, on July 19, 2016, lost his life in the same way as George Floyd. May their souls rest in peace and JUSTICE be finally done.

A march against police violence

On the photo published by the French star, we see Omar Sy, protective mask on the nose, holding a sign on which is written "I can't breathe", the last sentence spoken by the 46-year-old man, asphyxiated during an altercation with a white police officer in Minnesota, on May 25. A phrase that has become a rallying symbol for protesters who have shouted their anger at police violence across the country.

A determined and sometimes violent protest that even forced the establishment of a curfew in forty American cities, while Donald Trump mentioned the possibility of sending "thousands of heavily armed soldiers" to bring back the order and stop the looting.

Support for the family of Adama Traoré

But "via this post and this photo", Omar Sy "also shouts the name of d'Adama Traoré, who, in France, on July 19, 2016, lost his life in the same way as George Floyd". A message that also resonates with the news, since last May 30 a new expertise, as part of the investigation of the death of the young man of 24 years, exonerated the gendarmes responsible for the arrest.

In 24 hours, Omar Sy's photo was liked more than 100,000 times, and many French personalities, from Kev Adams to Leïla Bekhti via Samuel Umtiti, gave him their support.
