One plague can hide another. As the epidemic of Covid-19 gradually ends, the endemic risk of lack of water resurfaces. The northern prefecture has just put the entire department under drought vigilance until June 30, after the meeting of the drought technical committee held on May 14.

"In this context, everyone is invited to use water in moderation and to show good citizenship in order to avoid any shortage of drinking water and / or damage to the natural environment," said a statement from the prefecture. This situation follows a continuous year of vigilance or drought alert in the department between April 2019 and April 2020.

Relatively high rainfall in winter

However, after heavy rains in February, a slight improvement was seen around mid-April. "The winter of 2019-2020 was marked by relatively high rainfall, allowing correct recharge of the water tables over a good part of the territory, despite very low levels following three years of consecutive drought," explains Prefecture.

But it was not enough. The weather in recent weeks, with its hot and dry weather, has again plunged the North under surveillance, a hydrological station having even reached the alert level.
