Secondary schools reopened Tuesday in areas that were previously red on the map of the coronavirus epidemic. Europe 1 observed the restart of a college, near Lille.

REPORTAGE

For this second phase of deconfinement on the school side, the high schools in the green zones and the colleges which were still closed in the old red zones reopened on Tuesday. In the North, department of the Hauts-de-France region, the first pupils of 6th and 5th made their return to class. Europe 1 followed this new kind of return to college Saint-Exupéry in Hellemmes, very close to Lille.

And what could be better than a gymnastic session under the sun to reconnect with friends? After two and a half months of closure due to the coronavirus, the college is finally coming back to life. "It is a pleasure to see all the children again, it is true that it is good for us", rejoices Nathalie, the director of classes at Segpa. "There it is, the machine is launched!"

No "big fear" on learning

On the second floor of the building, the atmosphere is very different: it is the first face-to-face math class for this grade 6 class, with a bottle of hydroalcoholic gel on each table spaced one meter apart. "It's just a little weird to see the teachers with masks and not be closer to our friends," sighs Faustine, who slowly takes up his marks. "We have to, anyway."

The teacher, Abdelatif, kept in touch with his students via the internet during the confinement. But it will still require a small upgrade. "We will try to see how we will find the right solutions to be able to catch up and consolidate past notions. I do not have a big fear," says the teacher.

A "ramp-up" in the days to come?

Here, half of the pupils in grades 6 and 5 were present for this school year. "We mainly have families who have been calling us since this morning to plan for the arrival of their child in the coming days. So I think it will grow in strength," anticipates Sylvain Fasquel, the principal. "People are somewhat reassured by seeing the protocol implemented in the establishment."

At Collège Saint-Exupéry, as elsewhere, it is the confidence of families in the health security of the college that will minimize the risk of dropping out for some students. Because Jean-Michel Blanquer said, when taking stock of this recovery: the situation is "imperfect" in schools.
