Invitations to the car hits are sent out in closed groups on social media. The police usually get the information rumored. A popular spot for car hits is the car park outside Maxi in Västervik.

- There have always been motor-interested young people who meet and show each other their cars. But now in the spring it has blossomed and the number has increased throughout southern Sweden, says Fredrik Westerholm, group chief at the police in Västervik.

One theory is that this is because many people do not have much to do now during the corona pandemic.

No permits are granted

It is not forbidden to meet a few people and have a car meeting, but when there are many vehicles, it is considered a public event and then permission is needed. At present, no such permits are granted as it is not allowed to gather with more than 50 persons.

During the car meeting in Västervik this weekend, no notification was made of a violation of the Ordinance Act.

- They were good and stayed in groups of five to ten people and parked the cars at a distance from each other.

But a lot of the fine had to be written. Tires were burned and music was played at high volume.

Too many in Kalmar

Car meetings were also held in Kalmar this weekend. There, between 80 and 100 cars gathered in a parking lot at Hansa city and around 200 people were at the site.

Some of the cars then drove to the parking lot at the Giraffe shopping center. The police made two reports of violations of the Ordinance Act because so many gathered at the same place.
