Europe works against the clock to activate tourism in early July. Do you think we are in time to save part of the summer season? Tourism is the first economic sector in Europe, with 12% of employment, which is about 27 million people. 80% of this industry are small and medium companies. It is important to be able to activate this sector, which is so vital for the economy of the European Union, as soon as possible. One of the biggest challenges facing Europe is the reactivation of tourism in safe conditions. Do you think it is possible to reach a single agreement before July? The commission has already published a document that talks about the problems associated with tourism and transport and has said that the appropriate thing is to open the borders, always prioritizing the health of citizens. There is talk of creating tourist routes or corridors between regions, but that It poses discrimination problems ... It will be done based on epidemiological criteria, in areas where the situation is more favorable. The Commission will shortly publish a map with safe destinations. It will also explain where to apply the means of control in planes, trains ... The sector says that for now there is no specific aid fund for tourism ... Although the social and economic impact is enormous, the reconstruction plan He has not yet spoken about tourism and that is not possible. Work is being done on measures to ensure that hotels have a safe tourism seal and, in parallel, the Commission is working on initiatives aimed at more responsible and sustainable tourism. On the islands there are cities that have decided not to accept more people. There will be a capacity to control the number of tourists. And this makes us wonder that there are things that have to change. Will the sun and beach tourism model of countries like Spain change? There will be a new approach in areas where there is now overcrowding. Less saturated areas will be favored, because there are already regions that have said that they cannot sustain more tourism. In three weeks a map will be presented with the areas where you can travel and areas where you can not. Parliament is going to ask for concrete actions to be able to start the summer season safely.
