Israel Today newspaper, close to Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, has revealed secret talks between Israel and Saudi Arabia since last December, to give Saudi Arabia a foothold in the management of the endowment department at the blessed Al Aqsa Mosque.

The newspaper stated that these negotiations came within the framework of the implementation of the American peace plan, noting that it was not yet clear whether these Saudi-Israeli contacts had paid off.

And "Israel Today" quoted a Saudi source as saying that Jordan's position - which is in charge of managing Islamic endowments affairs in Jerusalem as the sole sponsor - has changed due to what the newspaper considered the increase in Turkish influence in Al-Aqsa Mosque.

She added that the aim of the Israeli-Saudi talks on the endowment circle in the blessed Al-Aqsa Mosque is for Saudi Arabia to have the role of observer to prevent prejudice to Jordan's position.

The newspaper said that Jordan has shown flexibility in its position, and has informed Israel and the United States of its willingness to include representatives of Saudi Arabia in the Waqf Department, but without prejudice to Jordan's position in managing Islamic holy sites and being the main sponsor of it.

According to the newspaper, Jordan stipulated that Saudi Arabia work to transfer funds to Islamic associations in Jerusalem, and press Turkey to remove Turkish associations.

The source added to the newspaper that Israel and the United States are concerned with the Saudi role in order to pass the American peace plan and annex parts of the West Bank to Israel.
