by Tiziana Di Giovannandrea 31 May 2020A year from the beginning of the struggle of the workers of the Whirlpool plant in East Naples, - when in a meeting in Rome the leaders of the American multinational communicated to the RSU the intention to close the Neapolitan factory - the 400 workers and the unions have organized a live Facebook event entitled "A year of struggle, a year of hope" with the cry of "Whirlpool Napoli does not give up".
"In these twelve months the workers have had the ability to resist for themselves and for others. And all this even during the lockdown, becoming the protagonists of an important solidarity initiative, donating blood for those who needed it" said the secretary general of Uilm Campania ,Antonio Accurso during the live Fb. The general secretary of the Fim-Cisl of Naples , Biagio Trapani said: "The workers were good at not falling into easy depressions, managing to keep up the will to move forward. With courage important goals can be achieved". According to the secretary general of the Fiom CGIL of Naples , Rosario Rappa : "Whirlpool is a very difficult dispute. We must thank the workers who have played a fundamental role in keeping this dispute open. This is a battle to defend a legality defense against the mafias. A dispute that cannot be missed ".

The national leaders, Francesca Re David-Fiom Cgil , Rocco Palombella-Uilm and Marco Bentivogli-Fim Cisl ask for a 'strong' position of the Government to prevent the site from being decommissioned and to arrive in the autumn without a solution.

Currently the only certainty is the date of October 31, set by the Americans as the last day before the divestment while in Italy the negotiations between Whirlpool and the Government continued, in the United States, the intention to close the site was communicated to the Stock Exchange Authority.

Vincenzo De Luca , president of the Campania Region, recalled that, despite the proposal for a framework agreement and an investment of 20 million, the multinational "has not received any response". For the mayor of Naples Luigi de Magistris : "In the meetings with the government we are continually emphasizing the sufferings, the exasperation of those who have lost and are losing their jobs. So far on the other side I have found an inadequacy, so it is up to us to be not only goad, but protagonists. If a company closes then it is crime that conquers those territories ". Even Cardinal Crescenzio Sepe takes the field with a strong commitment: "Naples does not want Whirlpool to leave the city. I am ready to do my part, without any interference, if you want."
