Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro again ignored on Sunday the severity of the coronavirus, which already leaves almost 30,000 deaths in the country, and attended a demonstration in which he even rode a horse before thousands of people.

The event took place at the gates of the Presidential Palace of Planalto, in Brasilia, and as has happened in demonstrations that "Bolsonarism" held on recent Sundays, there were protests against Congress and the Supreme Court, which according to supporters of the leader of the far right "conspire" against the government.

The demonstration was called at a time when Brazil, with almost half a million, is the second country with the most Covid-19 infections in the world, behind only the United States, and the fourth in the number of deaths, with 28,834, according to the last official data .

Unlike other times, Bolsonaro did not make a statement and simply greeted and hugged many of the attendees, he carried some children in his arms and posed for photos, all without using the mask that is mandatory to circulate through the streets of Brasilia.

After greeting his supporters, estimated at around 3,000, the head of state went to a group of policemen on horseback, mounted one of them and walked among the people, who after the ride dispersed without further incident.

The posters displayed by the protesters read phrases challenging the independence of the three powers of the nation and even some demand for "military intervention", along with others calling for the "closure" of Parliament and Congress.

However, the vast majority of the banners alluded to the defense of "God, family, country and freedom", which are the "conservative values" that Bolsonaro usually cites in his speeches.

"In defense of jobs"

Other cartels demanded that local and municipal governments, responsible for applying measures to restrict the movement of people to contain the virus, immediately release economic activities "in defense of jobs."

Other demonstrations in support of the Bolsonaro government are called for this Sunday, and the largest are expected to be held in São Paulo and Rio de Janeiro, two of the country's cities that have been hit hardest by the coronavirus pandemic.

Bolsonaro, as well as three of his sons who are active in politics, are currently the subject of various investigations that are in the hands of the Attorney General's Office and are supervised by the Supreme Court.

In the case of the president, he is suspected of trying to illegally intervene in the Federal Police, an autonomous body that reports to the Ministry of Justice, whose former head Sergio Moro denounced these alleged irregularities.

This Saturday, Bolsonaro published a series of messages on social networks alluding to his government's problems with Justice and concluded with a forceful phrase: "Everything points to a crisis," he wrote.
