China Overseas Chinese Network, May 31 (Xinhua) According to a report from Burma China, a few days ago, Xu Shiying, the president of Hong Kong's "Mirror", published a signed article "Building a Community of Destiny in China and Myanmar to Open a New Era for China-Myanmar Relations-70th Anniversary of the Establishment of Diplomatic Relations between China and Myanmar" Excerpts are as follows:

On October 1, 1949, the five-star red flag was raised at Tiananmen Square in Beijing. Chairman Mao Zedong solemnly declared the establishment of the People's Republic of China on the Tiananmen Gate. On October 2, 1949, Burmese overseas Chinese raised the first five-star red flag in Southeast Asia in the capital of Yangon, Myanmar. On December 16, 1949, Myanmar Foreign Minister Imon called Foreign Minister Zhou Enlai to recognize the People's Republic of China. On June 8, 1950, China and Myanmar formally established diplomatic relations, and this year coincided with the 70th anniversary. Looking back on the 70-year history of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and Myanmar, these four dates are of great significance.

The people of China and Myanmar have deep friendship

China and Myanmar are friendly neighbors connected by mountains and rivers, and the friendship between the two peoples has a long history. The generations of overseas Chinese living in Myanmar have lived in friendship with the people of Burma and are sympathetic to each other. They are regarded as fellow brothers by the Burmese people. They are called by the Burmese "cell wave". This kind of "cell wave" friendship between the two peoples is China and Myanmar's unique friendship. Mr. Xu Simin, the founder of the Mirror, who was born and raised in Myanmar, has spared no effort to promote Sino-Myanmar friendship during his 50-year residence in Myanmar.

After the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and Myanmar, with the care and promotion of the older generation of leaders of the two countries, the friendly relations and friendship between the two countries have opened a new chapter. In 1954, China, India and Myanmar jointly advocated the "Five Principles of Peaceful Coexistence", which became the basic norm of international relations recognized by the international community.

In April 1955, Premier Zhou Enlai went to Indonesia through Kunming and Yangon to attend the Asian-African Conference in Bandung. Since then, Chinese national leaders have visited Myanmar through this route or transferred to other countries, and the exchanges between the two sides have become closer. In April 1960, Premier Zhou Enlai and Vice Premier Chen Yi visited Myanmar, which coincided with the Myanmar Songkran Festival. The two dressed in Burmese national costumes, accompanied by Myanmar Prime Minister Wu Nu, celebrated the Songkran Festival with the Burmese people and moved the two peoples.

China and Burma are connected by mountains and rivers. The eastern branch of Myanmar ’s mother river, the Upper Irrawaddy River, originated in Tibet, China. The longest river in Myanmar, the upper reaches of the Salween River, is called Nu River. When Chen Yi visited Myanmar in 1957, he wrote the deep emotional poems of "I live at the head of the river, and live at the tail of the river, and love each other, drinking a river".

China and Myanmar set multiple "firsts"

After years of hard struggle, the people of Burma successfully got rid of British colonial rule and declared independence on January 4, 1948, establishing the Union of Myanmar. Just over two months after the founding of the People ’s Republic of China, the newly born Federation of Myanmar quickly announced the recognition of New China and became the first non-socialist country to recognize the People ’s Republic of China. These two newly established countries have set multiple "firsts" in the 70-year history of exchanges.

China and Myanmar have a border of more than 2,000 kilometers. On January 28, 1960, the Chinese and Myanmar Prime Ministers signed the Agreement between the People ’s Republic of China and the Federal Government of Myanmar on the Boundary Issue between the People ’s Republic of China and the Treaty of Friendship and Non-aggression Between Each Other. This is the first border treaty signed between New China and its Asian neighbors. It is also the first treaty of friendship and non-aggression between Asian countries and New China. In terms of economy and trade, China is Myanmar's largest trading partner and largest source of investment.

Building a community of destiny between China and Myanmar

On January 17-18, 2020, Chinese President Xi Jinping paid a state visit to Myanmar on the occasion of the 70th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and Myanmar, and regarded Myanmar as the first country to visit in the New Year.

When meeting with Myanmar ’s President Wen Min, President Xi Jinping stated that China-Myanmar comprehensive strategic partnership of cooperation has laid a solid foundation, and China is willing to actively promote pragmatic cooperation with Myanmar to accelerate the integration of the “Belt and Road” initiative with Myanmar ’s development strategy and bring about mutually beneficial cooperation. More fruitful results for the benefit of the two peoples.

On January 18, China and Myanmar issued a joint statement, identifying 2020 as the "China-Myanmar Cultural Tourism Year", noting that the two sides have unanimously agreed to use the 70th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations as an opportunity to promote the traditional "cell wave" friendship between China and Myanmar and deepen the two countries. The comprehensive strategic partnership has created a community of shared destiny between China and Myanmar, and pushed China-Myanmar relations into a new era, enriching and enhancing the connotation of friendship. The two sides agreed to strengthen cooperation in the joint construction of the “Belt and Road”, promote the transition of the China-Myanmar Economic Corridor from the conceptual plan to the substantive construction stage, and focus on promoting the construction of the interconnected and interconnected architecture of the Jiaobo Special Economic Zone, the China-Myanmar Border Economic Cooperation Zone, the Yangon New City, and power and energy .

China and Myanmar have established diplomatic ties for 70 years. On the basis of mutual respect, mutual trust, and mutual assistance, the two sides have brought China-Myanmar friendly relations to a new level, and enhanced and deepened the friendship between China and Myanmar. China firmly supports Myanmar's development path in line with its own national conditions. Myanmar actively responds to and participates in China's "Belt and Road" cooperation initiative.

I wish China and Myanmar to carry forward the spirit of the "five principles of peaceful coexistence" jointly promoted by the leaders of the older generation, continue to deepen the comprehensive strategic cooperative partnership between the two countries, build a community of shared destiny between China and Myanmar, and let the Chinese and Myanmar compatriots live together forever.
