The anger that took hold of the United States after the death in Minneapolis on Monday of a black man, George Floyd, at the hands of a white police officer, caused destructive riots in the city. Since Saturday evening, violence has spread to many cities, such as New York, Seattle and Los Angeles, forcing some governors to decree curfews.

In New York, where tension has been high for several days already, police cars were filmed rushing into the crowd before the demonstrators stopped them and climbed onto the roofs. In Los Angeles, where the images of the lynching of Rodney King, beaten by four white police in 1991, are still vivid, a dozen police cars were set on fire.
