In at least 20 cities around the United States, protests are currently underway against police violence against the African American population after a black man, George Floyd, died in a police raid. An event captured on film.

The Pentagon has taken the rare measure to put military police units in readiness because of the unrest, the AP writes.

Soldiers from military bases in North Carolina and New York should also have been ordered to get ready to be placed on duty with four hours' notice, according to data provided by the AP.

The protests have also reaped their first casualty. A 19-year-old man has been killed in central Detroit after an unknown person in an SUV fired multiple shots into a crowd protesting George Floyd's death. That's what a Detroit police spokeswoman says, reports AP and CNN.
